Mercy Medical Center Establishes Geriatric Consultation Service |
|
(September 09, 2008 - Rockville Centre, NY) - To meet the complex medical needs of the rapidly growing population of older community residents, Mercy Medical Center has established a Geriatric Consultation Service. The program provides the opportunity for comprehensive evaluations by Mercy’s Director of Geriatric Medicine, which can provide unique insights and information that are invaluable to older patients, their families and their primary care physicians. Available services include assessments of frailty, screenings for age-related depression and cognitive dementia, recommendations on gait and balance to avoid falls, nutritional guidance, and other preventive services. “The consultation service is an extension of the Center for Geriatric Excellence program that we established earlier this year to provide more efficient evaluations and treatment of the many patients who come to Mercy Medical Center from area nursing homes,” explained Daniel G. Murphy, MD, Senior Director of Patient Care Operations. “This new program now makes Mercy’s special expertise in the care of older patients available to the broader community.” Appointments with the Geriatric Consultation Service can be made by calling: 516-62MERCY |
