Mercy Medical Center Launches Hotel-Style Room Service for Patient Meals

Choice of Gourmet Foods Is Available Within 45-Minutes All Day Long


(March 12, 2010 - Rockville Centre, NY) In the latest enhancement of amenities that set apart its exceptional patient experience, Mercy Medical Center has begun providing hotel-style room service for patient meals.

Unlike conventional hospital food service, in which meal choices must be made as much as a day in advance and eaten at fixed meal times, Mercy's new system enables most patients to order from a broad array of menu items at any time of their choosing between 6:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. for delivery to their bedsides within 45 minutes.

Breakfast items are available all day, with lunch and dinner choices severed from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Selections range from light fare such as Tomato Mozzarella or Radicchio with Baby Arugula and Roasted Beets salads, to sandwiches like Roasted Summer Vegetables or Turkey Reuben Panini, to gourmet dinner choices of Char-Broiled New York Strip Steak Au Poivre with Green Peppercorn Sauce or Roasted "Frenched" Chicken Breast with Thyme, Rosemary and Sage. Menu choices are arranged to account for any particular dietary needs or restrictions directed by each patient's physician.

Mercy has long been recognized for providing patients with exceptional restaurant-quality meals, from menus created by consulting chef Jean-Marie Zimmermann, executive chef for RMS Queen Mary II, the world's largest ocean liner. With the new system, Mercy's patients now experience not only the cuisine, but also the convenience of Room Service meal delivery that's found on a cruise ship or in a fine hotel.
