Event Highlighted By Presentation of 2009 Fund-Raising Proceeds of $161,000

pr_20100325_st_patricks_dinner(March 25, 2010 - Rockville Centre, NY) The challenging economic environment didn't deter a capacity crowd of more than 200 attendees from turning out for The Friends of Mercy Medical Center's 44th Annual Gentlemen's St. Patrick's Dinner.

The black-tie event on March 11th at the Hempstead Golf and Country Club honored Daniel Murphy, MD, of Garden City, the hospital's Director of Emergency Medicine and Senior Director of Patient Care Services, and was underwritten by The Feil Family Foundation and Neurological Surgery, PC, the largest private neurosurgery practice on Long Island.

Alan Guerci, MD, the hospital's president and CEO, was presented with a check for $161,000, representing the proceeds of The Friends 2009 fund-raising efforts, which supported the acquisition of new digital mammography and other state-of-the-art equipment in the hospital's newly-renovated Women's Imaging Center. In the past five years, the Friends have raised nearly $1.5 million to support hospital facilities.

The guest speaker at the event was State Senator Dean Skelos of Rockville Centre who has represented the 9th District covering southwestern Nassau County since 1984 and serves as Republican Leader. The ceremonies included a special presentation to Thierry Duchatellier, MD, of Malverne, Mercy's Chief of Cardiology, to honor the relief work he did in Haiti following the earthquake that devastated that nation, and the naming of Rabbi Barry Dov Schwartz, spiritual leader of Temple B'Nai Sholom in Rockville Centre, to be
co-chaplain of The Friends, joining his long-time friend Monsignor Frank Caldwell.
