Free Presentation on Lumbar Spinal Stenosis At Mercy Medical Center

Symptoms and Treatments For Back Ailment Affecting One In Ten Americans

(March 25, 2010 - Rockville Centre, NY) Mercy Medical Center invites the community to a free lecture on Lumbar Spinal Stenosis - the most common reason for spine surgery in older Americans - on Wednesday, May 5th at 6:30 p.m.

Dr. Victor Katz, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in spine care will discuss causes, symptoms and available treatments, including both non-operative options and the latest minimally-invasive surgical techniques.

It has been estimated that as many as one in ten Americans may suffer from Lumbar Spinal Stenosis, which is a narrowing of the spinal canal in the lower back, most often resulting from degenerative arthritis. It causes symptoms that include back pain and weakness, numbness, pain, and loss of sensation in the legs.

Dr. Katz received his medical degree from SUNY School of Medicine at Stony Brook and his post-graduate training included a fellowship at the Spine Institute at Seton Medical Center in Daly City, California.

Advance registration for his presentation is NOT required. It will be conducted in the employee dining room on the lower level of the medical center's North Pavilion. Ample convenient free parking will be available.
