New Council President Takes Office

(July 1, 2010 - Rockville Centre, NY) Mercy Medical Center has received a donation of more than $238,000 from the Council of Leagues, the auxiliary organization that coordinates the efforts of a dozen individual community-based League groups in Nassau County that provide volunteer and fund-raising support for the hospital.

The gift, representing the proceeds of the past year's numerous local fund-raising events and activities, was presented to Ron Steimel, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, by Council of Leagues president Barbara Cheslock of Hicksville, at the Council's 50th Annual Luncheon on June 10th at Verdi's of Westbury.

More than 100 attended the event, which also included the installation of Doreen Baldwin of Rockville Centre as the Council's new president, as well as the announcement of 50 Year Service Awards to seven Leagues members: Virginia Nelson of Floral Park, Ann Marie Gordon of Garden City, and Glen Cove/Hicksville/Syosset League members Loraine Corcoran, Joan D'Auria, Marge Montana, Wilhelmina Schiffmacher and Barbara Votypka.

Founded in 1931, The Council of Leagues of Mercy Medical Center has over 2,000 members throughout Nassau County, whose individual chapters are united in their support of Mercy.
