Ninth Consecutive Highest Rating By HealthGrades®

(October 20, 2010 - Rockville Centre, NY) For the ninth consecutive year, the nation's leading independent healthcare ratings company has given Mercy Medical Center its highest rating for joint-replacement surgery.

In the 2011 ratings for Orthopedic Surgery just announced by HealthGrades, Mercy received the highest-possible 5-Star ratings for Joint Replacement and Total Knee Replacement, and also for Hip Fracture Repair. Mercy is the only hospital on Long Island to receive 5-Star ratings in all three categories.

It's the ninth time in as many years in which Mercy has received a 5-Star rating for both Joint Replacement and Total Knee Replacement, and the fifth consecutive year for Hip Fracture Repair. No other Long Island hospital has received 5-Star ratings for Joint Replacement and Total Knee Replacement prior to this year, and Mercy also is the only hospital on Long Island that has achieved 5-Star status for Hip Fracture Repair more than twice.

Mercy previously received the coveted HealthGrades Orthopedic Care Excellence Award^TM four years in a row, 2005-2008. Among the more than 5,000 facilities across the nation analyzed by HealthGrades, Mercy was the only hospital in Nassau County to be ranked in the top ten percent in Overall Orthopedic Service in 2005 and the top five percent in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
