$500,000 State Grant Supports Enhanced Nuclear Medicine Capabilities At Mercy Medical Center

Senator Dean Skelos Facilitates Funding From State Dormitory Authority

pr_20101216_SkelosMMCGrant(December 16, 2010 -Rockville Centre, NY) With the assistance of Senator Dean Skelos, Mercy Medical Center has secured a $500,000 grant from the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York to enhance its nuclear medicine and surgical imaging capabilities.

The Senate Republican Leader joined the hospital's administrators in a ceremony marking receipt of the funding, which was arranged by the Dormitory Authority through the New York State Technology and Development Program.

The grant supports Mercy's recent acquisition of a new Nuclear Medicine Camera, used for screening and diagnostic procedures such as bone density and lung scans, and a C-arm X-ray Image Intensifier, a mobile fluoroscopic device used in operating suites to guide instrumentation during minimally-invasive surgical procedures.

"Mercy Medical Center has been providing quality health care in Nassau County for almost a century," said Senator Skelos. "I'm honored to help them secure this funding so they can enhance their nuclear medicine and surgical imaging capabilities and continue to provide the very best in health care services to our communities."

"We deeply appreciate the effort expended by Senator Skelos, in securing state funding for this valuable new equipment" said Ron Steimel, Mercy's Chief Operating Officer. "Thanks to his assistance, Mercy Medical Center will continue to provide our community with state-of-the-art diagnostic and surgical care."
